DIY American Girl Doll Dollhouse Entry & Storage

We are so excited to finally share these DIY American Girl Doll Front Door Entry & Storage plans with you! We have seen front doors before and we really wanted to add one to our house. We couldn’t find any existing plans online, so of course we made our own! It took a little longer than a normal build because we started from scratch. Besides seeing pictures of ones people had made, we didn’t have any measurements to go on like we normally do when replicating an AG item. So, this is a custom AGI front door entry! We added some really cool features like the storage up top. It’s a great use of space. A light would also be a good addition. 

If you don’t do the wood builds, don’t worry. This is just like Lea’s Fruit Stand where you can make it out of foam board! AND, we have a new special front door entry coming soon. It’s much wider than this one and it has a surprise twist! So, if you want a wider one that you can add a bench and maybe a few plants, stay tuned!

TIPS:

• I stained the wood shingles BEFORE I pinned them on the roof.
• The trim was also painted BEFORE being attached in place.
• The floor I used is a sheet of scrapbook paper. I brushed a thin layer of Mod Podge underneath, put the sheet in place, smoothed it out completely, and then added another layer of Mod Podge on top. It looks awesome in person!
• The door knob was also painted before it was put on.
• The door knob consists of two Dowel Caps. You can find them in the shopping list. I took a 1/2” dowel and cut it at 1 1/4” long.  Then I drilled a 1/2” hole where I wanted the door knobs to go. Next I glued one end of the dowel into the dowel cap. Then I put it through the previously drilled hole. Finally I glued the other dowel cap on the end of the dowel and now you have your door knob.

Cut List *All of these pieces are MDF EXCEPT the shingles. You cannot stain MDF so the shingles are 1/4″ Birch Plywood from Hobby Lobby or Michaels.

Step 1 & 2:

Start by cutting out the windows in the two sides of the front entry.

Step 3:

Next, cut the back wall of the front entry out as show in the diagram below. Make sure to cut the top of the wall at 67°.

Step 4:

Nail and glue the sides to the back wall and floor. Make sure the back wall is resting on top of the floor.

Step 5:

Attach the ceiling of the Front Entry by following the diagram below.

Step 6:

Cut out the center window, on the door, by following the diagram below.

Step 7:

Attach the inner window trim by following the diagram below.

Step 8:

Insert the inner window bars and attach with glue and nails.

Step 9:

Attach the side windows trim by glueing and nailing into place.

Step 10:

Attach side window trim with glue and nails.

Step 11:

Attach door trim with glue and nails.

Step 12:

Attach the door window trim with glue and nails. Be sure to make the trim flush with the inner window trim.

Step 13:

Attach the roof supports to the roof as shown in the diagram below.

Step 14:

Cut out the side roof trim as shown in the diagram below.

Step 15:

Cut the shingles as shown in the diagram below. You can make them just like ours or you can use whatever design you would like. Just remember that the shingles need to be 1/4” thick.

Step 16a:

Attach the first row with the back of the shingles flush with the roof side trim. Be sure to attach with glue and nails.

Step 16b:

Attach the next row with glue and nails.

Step 16c:

Attach the next row with glue and nails.

Step 16d:

This is how you roof should look when all the rows have been glued and nailed into place.

Step 17:

Attach the back of roof trim with glue and nails.

Step 18:

Attach the roof to the entry with the piano hinge.
