A few weeks ago we were looking through our recyclables for another craft project.  I noticed the butter container and immediately thought of a Retro style TV for the dolls.  I know that 50’s Diners don’t typically have TV’s in them, but we have decided to add one on our bar top.  So, since it’s in our diner, we made it part of the diner series!  It is so crazy easy to make!  One of my favorite features is making the lid the TV screen and having multiple screen options!  So cool!  Also, we did not add legs since it will be on the counter, but you can always add the 50’s style legs to it.  I also had the thought that when we make Maryellen’s TV Console, we might just make an opening so we can slip this TV into place.

American Girl Diner Series:

Part 1: Paper Hats & Guest Check Printables

Part 2: Menu Printables

Part 3: Paper Food Tray Printables

Part 4: Diner Booths

Part 5: Diner Table

Part 6: American Girl Diner Stools

Part 7: American Girl Retro TV

Materials Needed:

  1. Scissors
  2. Printable TV Screens
  3. Glue Stick
  4. Hot Glue Gun
  5. Assorted Beads with Backs
  6. Two Toothpicks
  7. Spray Paint
  8. Empty Squarish Container with Lid

TIPS:

  • You can use regular buttons for the knobs, but I like the ones with the backs because they look more like TV knobs.
  • Save up several lids that way you can make several interchangeable screens.

Watch & tell us what retro color you will make your TV!

I love your projects, I just finished making my retro TV in pink. It was the only color I had , but I love it. I started doing these projects for my 8 year old granddaughter, Kakei and her American Girl..
      Now I’m hooked. Thank you.

I have enjoyed your YouTube videos so much. You are such a wiz at designing, I’m wondering whether you are an engineer. If not you could be! Anyway thanks for all your posts!

I think anything will work! There are so many shapes and sizes of TV’s that you can’t go wrong.
