DIY American Girl Basketball Court ~ Guest Feature
DIY American Girl Basketball Court ~ Guest Feature
We love featuring your crafts and DIY’s here on American Girl Ideas. It is so much fun to see the creativity in everyones crafts and to share them so others can enjoy and make their own. Today’s feature is one of a younger crafter who has brilliant ideas and vision for her dolls play. It is an honor to feature her and share her talent.
A few words from Jada:
What inspired me to make a school gym was my love of sports. I play in many sports and like soccer, basketball and mma. I like to play sports with my dolls and school. So one day my mom told me she show a picture of Julie’s bleachers on our friend Shelly’s world on Fb. She also share how she made her own too. So I told my mom I wanted to do one but I also would like a gym too. I have to tell you this was the easiest and cheapest project we ever done and the coolest, lol. We made the walls out of foam board and the back of the bleachers too. We made it 26″ tall so it could be high for the dolls. We didn’t make it long because I have little space but I recommend if you have space make it a little longer. We use a table basketball table cover for party city for the floor. We use wood craft paper for the bleachers. We use AG boxes for the bleachers. We made school signs on the computer. The hardest part was finding hoops that where a good sizes. But a friend in Facebook recommended a site at “office playground” and they where perfect. I can’t wait until we get the cheerleader uniform and have our homecoming day.

Thank you
The sell them at micheals and other craft stores. They cost about $5-$6. We get them at our local .99 cent store because they are $1.49 but they are thin , so we glue two togather to make it thicker and sturdier. The ones in micheals are thicker and sturdier.

Great job Jada!! Jada, If you are still looking for a cheerleading outfit in your school colors – on Etsy there is a great shop IfDollsCouldDream (shop owner Maggie) that has really nice cheerleading outfits for $18. Right now she has 20 different ones and if you can not find what you need she will custom make it for you! They even come with pom moms!! I love this shop!! Sharon

Thank you very much. We order them for someone already but them don’t have Pom poms. After we order my mom so a cheaper lady selling them with Pom Poms. But it’s ok now we know to shop around a bit before buying. I try making Pom Pom with one big Pom Pom I got at party city but it don’t look good lolol. It’s made of plastic so it just drips.

Hi this is Jada, on the link you could see my video. I explain it a little there. Frist we brought the foam board the color I wanted the walls to be. Or you could buy white and painted. Tip if you go to .99 cent store or local discount store they have foam board for $1-$2. So it could be sturdy you could double it up. Because they are thinner. We use a board that was 28″ long , 20″ high and deep. We hot glue the 2 side walls to the back board. Back wall on it side make it long 28″ and 20″ high. you should put for the side walls, the board with 20″ side for the deep side and put the longer side going up. Then cut the 28″ side to how high you want the hoop to be. I didn’t do that and had to add a piece because 20″ wasn’t enough. I made it 6″ higher, make it 26″ high. Before I glue the floor, I put wood Craft paper on the board that was the floor. Then I hot glue the boards togather. Kids should have mommy there. After that I cut a basketball table cover from party city to make the floor look like a court. I use tape because the cover is plastic. I tape it all around to go with my craft paper and the tape help the floor look shinny. Then I print some signs for the wall. I use craft foam and glue it to a piece of foam board. I made mine about “12 tall and 14″ long. Make lines not to deep about ever 3” with an exsactonife. Then I put it underneath the basketball hoop was going to be. So it look like the paded walls the gyms have. the hoops I found had a clip you could just slip into the walls. You could ask any other question you like. Thank you
