American Girl Diner vs. Our Generation Diner

Almost a year ago we got the Our Generation Diner and instantly feel in love with it.  It has so many cool features and it gets a lot of play time.  It even made an appearance in one of our stop motion pictures CUPS. Just recently we opened up the American Girl Diner and  just like before, we feel in love!  Both of these diners are great.  They both have their pros as well as their cons.  Everyones pro/con list can be different though.  I am not here to try and push my favorite one on you, I just want to give an honest comparison on what the two can offer.  You can decide on which would be the best fit for your collection, space and budget!

 American Girl Seaside Diner

Our Generation Retro Bite to Eat Diner

*Note, there are a few things missing from the OG Diner in the video.  Strawberry Ice Cream Scoop, Tomato Soup Bowl, 2 Clear Cups, Pitcher and Pink Milkshake.  It comes with so much it’s hard to notice the few things gone, but I wanted to give you a heads up.

I like the AG much better. It’s cuter, better made, and looks more realistic. I do not like how OG is plastic and all the additions are plastic, it would not hold up as long ;(

OG is the superior product in my opinion. Quality does seem to be better with AG but you don’t get as much stuff and things to play with. The stickers are a joke. With the cost comparison its a no brainer that OG is the way to go.

I think OG has a bigger and better selection of food then AG.

Actually as I am looking at the og diner I am seeing how it isn’t as realistic. So I will just diy the ag one and make my own accessories and use the things from this blog;)

Since I live in Canada the OG Diner and the American Girl dinner price difference is only about $10. I will be saving up for the American Girl version, I love the bigger seats and table which I can imagine will lead to less frustration in play time.

No comparison in my book! AG Diner quality is far superior & more attractive to me!

Thanks so much for seeing both diners side by side. I have the OG diner and for the price, I think it’s a better deal considering all the accessories it comes with.

Oh I do like the color of the AG one, and yes, it’s much much more realisitc, but I have seen people paint the OG diner and looks real nice too.

All in all, I think both diners a great cause they both have real cool things, but the price drags me more to the OG one.

Thank you for sharing this video, the og diner is much, much, much better, I can’t believe that ag cost so much and comes with stickers.

One more positive for the OG Diner ( besides the cost ) the table juke box plays music and there is the light around the counter. Also it is easy to repaint with spray paint . I repainted the booth cushions aqua blue and the surrounding brown into white. Check out All Dolled Up Doll Clothes and see what she has done with hers………my inspiration. ( she even repainted the floor black & white)

I purchased the OG diner as soon as they were available. I will not buy the AG diner. It is very colorful, but you can cover the OG table top with decorative paper and add cushion covers to the stools and chairs. Thank you for the side by side

To think I will get og one and re paint the booth a different color like blue and maybe add on a kitchen area

I liked the color scheme, fold-ability, stools, booth, and size of the AG diner. The OG diner has a lot of features I like: the window blinds, the bakery display case, the phone and the food accessories! If this were a perfect world, I’d get the AG diner and use the OG accessories. Thank you for posting this comparison and your tireless efforts to help your fellow AG doll enthusiasts. Rudy, you’re a doll! ?

After seeing the first few leaked pics of the AG diner I went to Target and shelled out the $109 for the Og retro Diner. So disappointed in the AG diner. You’d think for more than twice the amount of their competitors’ version they’d have gone all out ! Stickers…smh.

Og has a little table top juke box like the ones from old diners I went to as a kid. Og has so much more food and accessories . Og diner may be plastic but it’s not flimsy and still is a better deal than AG all around.

I did not mean just a magnet for a phone, but that the phone e.g. OG’s phone could be magnetic so it could go on the wall. I thought there were other parts of the set that are magnetic? If it was a great phone I would not mind putting it up permanently.

I hope that AG corrects a couple of glaring problems. The stickers!! I really can’t get over the telephone as a sticker!! I hope that they at least try to correct this with a separate set with a phone (maybe magnetic??) a clock, table jukebox and table accessories that you can add to your set!!!

It’s kind of funny, the Seaside Diner is more appealing from a kid stand point with the colors and over all look but the OG Diner nails it with a more realistic feel IMO. Are they marketing to girls or moms? ?

Very helpful to see the differences! I see many pros and cons to both but I think the OG Diner wins me over this time with all the accessories and details. Love the phone and table top jukebox! Though I like the colors of the Seaside Diner better.

I definitely like AG for looks and realistic feel. However, when I spoke with my almost 7 y.o., she told me that what she cares is how she could play with the doll and accessories. In that case OH is way more functional with way more options to play. Yes the seats are smaller and plastic, but you can write on the board, pick up the phone, display the food in the stand, play the music (without spending extra $90 on AG judebox). Since it is meant for the girl to play and not for mommy to enjoy the looks, wetc will go with OG.
