How to Make the I Spot a Birdie Set
We are at it again! When we reviewed the Our Generation I Spot a Birdie set a few weeks ago we asked everyone to tell us what we should replicate from the set. The requests were so mixed with answers. A lot of people who already own doll binoculars really wanted bird seeds or a notebook and a lot of people who don’t own doll binoculars yet wanted them! So, since it was a smaller set we have recreated everything from it! I think my favorite part of the DIY version is the bird seed! It turned out so cute and so realistic looking. We made a lot of it because we might have a pet store in our future!?? The kids and I played around with a lot of different ideas for it.
On the printables you will notice several notebook designs. I just hate wasted space and extra notebooks are always needed. Plus, when you use the spiral from a real notebook there is plenty leftover to make several!
Materials Needed:
- Fanny Pack Pattern
- I Spot a Birdie Printables
- 13″ of Ribbon
- Clear Packaging OR this can be substituted with Packaging Tape
- Recycled Paperboard
- Communion Cups
- Glue Stick
- Hot Glue
- Rice
- Craft Paint
- Black Seed Beads *Optional
- Pencil
- Felt
- Mini Buckles
- Old Spiral Notebook
- Poker Tool (Maybe a toothpick or pointy tweezers can be substituted)
- Colored Card Stock
- Scissors
- Mod Podge
Tips:
- When you Mod Podge the binoculars be sure not to get any on the lens. It will give it a smudged wet look, which technique might come in handy later! (Oh the things you learn when you craft!)
- I used a glue stick for my bird seed printables, but my daughter used hot glue. Either will work.
- The fanny pack I made was for beginners. If you know how to sew, I highly recommend sewing yours. The felt one is cute, but not an exact match.
- I laminated my notebook cover and back. It is not necessary so I didn’t show that in the video. I do like the finished look of it though.

This is adorable!!! So many great ideas here, I definitely will be making this. Thank you for coming up with how to do it and for the very detailed instruction video. The best part with this is you can make everything very personal and in the colors you prefer!
