It’s May 4th, which is National Star Wars Day and we are celebrating by showing you how to make BB-8! Crazy enough, a BB-8 has been requested quite a few times! It’s a perfect craft to make for your American Girl Dolls so they can celebrate Star Wars with you! And doesn’t Grace look cute as Rey? Be sure to check out our other Star Wars crafts too!

How to make Lightsabers

Materials Needed:

  • 1- 3 1/4″ Smooth Styrofoam Half Ball
  • 2- 4 1/2″ Smooth Styrofoam Half Ball or 1 Ball
  • Glue
  • Marbles or Beads
  • Toothpicks
  • BB-8 Printables

Tips-

  • Print the printables on sticker paper if possible. If you don’t have sticker paper you will just have to glue them on the styrofoam balls. They will look the same it will just a little bit longer for them to dry into place.
  • You do not have to glue BB-8’s head on. We didn’t because we like it to move around. But, if you want it to stay in place just add a little hot glue to the toothpick on both sides.

Watch and tell us your favorite Star Wars character!

I didn’t cut it. It is a flat marble vase filler.

I’m planning my son’s Star Wars birthday and might use this as a craft for the boys to make.
My favorite character is Leia Organa, can’t beat a strong woman.

Wow! Our whole family are BIG Star Wars fans! I’m not sure if I have a favorite character! I like Princess Leia and Obi Wan Canoby. I have only seen the 1-4 episodes, but I am planning on watching the 5th one soon! In other words, I don’t know who BB8 is. I also like R2D2. That’s his name, right? Anyways, this is a great idea! I never would have thought of using styrofoam balls for this! Great idea! Can you maybe make nail art tutorials? That would be very helpful! Thanks! ~Emily

Grace looks FABULOUS as Rey!! I also love this craft, I would’ve never thought of a way to make BB-8. Did you make Grace’s costume? I was just wondering since Rey, is my favorite character.
