American Girl Grace Thomas Bakery

American Girl Grace Thomas Bakery

I just got back from the American Girl store in L.A.  It was CRAZY!   I got there two hours early and I still wasn’t even close to the front.  Details about the line later, right now it’s time to talk about the fun stuff.  Like the Grace Thomas Bakery!  My store said they only had eight and they didn’t even have them set out!  Workers were bringing them out and people were standing there shouting at them, “that’s mine! this one’s mine!  I’ll take that one!” Yeah, craziness all over.  Thank goodness my husband was there, he scored one!  Now that I’m home and I’ve had a good bite to eat, let me show you just how amazing it is in person.  And that is no exaggeration, it is amazing!   I had my sister take the kids out, because I wanted to get in and out of the store, plus I didn’t want them to get grumpy and ruin the day.  So, I have the bakery completely set up so when they get home there is nothing but fun play time!  Oh, and don’t be fooled, my son will be right there in the mix!  (pun intended, lol) I’ll share pictures later of the kids and their excitement.

**Update.  I have gotten a lot of questions about this bakery.  The first is, is the $500 price for the American Girl Grace Thomas Bakery worth it?  Well, seeing as it is American Girl, yes.  One, we all know that the name alone adds value to any item.  This item however, is very big, and very detailed.  So, the $500 is worth it to have the product and the name.  However, I stand by my DIY instinct and say to you, if you or someone you know is handy, hold out.  Why?  Because I am making an exact replica.  If you are okay with a knock off version or a DIY version, wait!  It will be very similar AND you get to decorate it the way you want!  That’s always fun!  Also, I will break it down into step by step instructions, so it won’t be that bad.  The post is coming soon, so check back daily.  I’m tempted on doing a giveaway for the one I build.  If you think that’s a good idea, leave a comment below!  The more comments I get might help me decide to give one away or not!

After 36 years we can no longer support the great products, like the bakery, in the future. We have 4 little grandaughters and they are great chefs; ages 10 to 3. We spent $498.00 last month and saved for this date 10/09/15. Now we are told that the Bakery is no longer available. How do we share this information about Santa and his bake shop? The Bake Shop is beautiful.

Oh my goodness; we are just getting into the dollhouse and building this and would LOVE to win the one you create! If not, we may just have to make our own!

You are such an inspiration! My daughter is 7 and we are new to American Girl. Grace Thomas is her first doll and I’m beyond thrilled to have found your site. I’m crafty and can’t wait to make the bistro set with her thanks to your DIY tutorial. I would love to attempt to make the bakery, but I don’t have the tools to cut all of the pieces of wood. I wonder if Home Depot would cut it all for me with your specs. Lol! That is the only way. So, needless to say, I would be ecstatic if you had a Bakery giveaway! My daughter and I have been browsing your site and love all of your projects!!! You are extremely talented and your fans from Connecticut are very appreciative!

Thank you SO MUCH for the plans for building this bakery. I literally was at the store yesterday measuring and trying to figure out how on earth I could make this myself. I came home and was browsing pinterest and came across your plans. THANK YOU!!! This will save my husband and I hours of frustration ?

So glad I could help! Several people have already made it from my plans and it makes me so happy to share!

They should have a discount if you buy it in-store.

This is so awesome in real life. We saw it at the AG store and my daughter loved it. Cannot justify the price tag, even with everything that comes with it. Can’t wait to see the completed DIY one. Your creations are amazing! And inspiring!

      It’s a project that’s for sure!

I think the bakery is Amazing and my daughter is totally in love with it. She clearly wants it, but I just can’t imaging finding the $ to buy it. It’s also really big Im sure, so I don’t know if her room has the space right now. I’m thinking about Getting the my generation doll silver camper from Target. It’s more afforable for our pockets and it seems to have a lot of stuff. I saw it in target I’ll look for a video on it.

I do think that giving the one u make away would be Reallly really nice, but I think the shipping would be expensive. However I’m sure anyone who won it, would be super happppy.

I wasn’t thinking in doing this, but I already saw your post with the instructions and I am tempted on doing it. The only thing I am thinking of changing is that instead of wood, I would be using foam core board, cause it would be easier for me to cut. I am thrilled and I just can’t wait to see yours. I also can’t wait to see your post on how to do the inside goodies. And making a giveaway with the one you make would be very very nice of you. Have a great day!

Found you today…..not sure how I missed you before. I have an idea…. I am excited to see what you design.

I’m so glad you found this place! The DIY bakery is coming along nicely! Most of the DIY projects and replicas take me a little bit longer to create because I build them to last. So the bakery will be just as strong and durable as the real one, just for a lot less in price.

Your work is amazing. I love the bakery and it appears AG is making things that offer more play value, however that comes with a high price tag. Yes, the item has the AG name and I am sure it is well made. if you just want the one doll and all that comes with her then I can see it but most girls collect many dolls and the cost of all of it, cannot be justified. I would love to be able to make one. I have no doubt yours will be amazing and can’t wait to see it.

  19. Sue January 8, 2015 at 7:46 am – Reply

Can’t wait to see your version. Love the AG one but can’t justify spending $500.00 on it. A give away is a very nice idea!!

My favorite product from the Grace Thomas collection would have to be the bakery. It’s so detailed and big and it’s just the cutest thing ever! I wish I had the money for it so I’m waiting for you to post the video for how to make it! Email me when it’s posts and I’m subscribed to your channel! My channel is The Diamond Cake. The bakery I’m trying (Notice how I say trying) to make is a fail so I’m thankful someone is making a replica! Thanks, Mackenzie.

I’m so glad you are doing a diy version! My husband and I were just talking about how we wish we could make the bakery for our daughter, and- lets face it ourselves. ? I only found your blog yesterday through the giveaway video on YouTube… Not sure how I missed you! I loved the diy you did for the bistro set. really, I liked yours as much or better than the American girl set… So I’m super excited for the bakery! Thanks for doing this for us po’ folks who don’t want to spend the money and have no American girl store anyway! ?

I am so glad you are deciding to do a DIY on this set!!! I can’t believe American girl would make something that pricey!!

  31. Bethany January 2, 2015 at 7:42 am – Reply

I’m a little sad about the price. For someone who does a lot of AG diy, I didn’t think you would spend the whopping 500! I want to hear why you spent so much on this? I’m in limbo, I want to make a bakery set or get some Our Generation kitchen stuff or have my girls save up for this Grace French Bakery. Give me your input. Thanks!

    • Rudy January 2, 2015 at 8:39 am – Reply

      Bethany,

Thanks for your reply. I love the AG bakery and I wanted to get it to do a DIY project. This is such a big project, I wanted to make sure I did an accurate replica. The plans for the DIY version of the bakery are almost complete and will be posted soon. It will be placed side by side the real one. If the price is an issue for you, I highly recommend waiting until my plans come out! It will be just as good! I’m trying to keep the cost way down. Plus, it’s a great project for moms, dads, daughters and sons to do together! We will have two in our house. But I’m hoping they are hard to tell apart!
