This has been one exciting project!  It has taken a few days longer than expected because during the course of the craft we kept changing ideas and adding pieces, which isn’t a bad thing.  The kids were full blast with creativity and hands on help.  About a week ago I posted a question in four different Facebook groups asking which Ice Cream Shop we should replicate and make printables for.  Cold Stone Creamery came in first by far, but trailing in second was the Generic no name option.  I think this is a win win for first and second place because you can always make your own labels for a generic store!  Just use the same concept for the Cold Stone we have made.  This project is really about the ice cream counter.  How to create the counter, make the ice cream vats, place them on or in the counter, and set up the glass in front of the ice cream. (Note*I have my vats sitting at an angle, but they do fit level down into the opening in the counter.)  A lot of this project will need your own unique finishing touches.  I love projects like this because even though we made an example, you can take it and twist it into your own version.  The kids and I love looking at the similar crafts!  Please share them on the Brag Page when you can.  It’s fun to browse through everyones creations!  So, here it is!  Tell us what you think!

Materials Needed:

  1. Foam Board
  2. Hot Glue Gun
  3. Clear Laminated Sheet or Recycled Packaging
  4. Scrap Book Paper *Optional
  5. Baby Food Containers or Condiment Containers (Note, the baby food containers will be bigger than the ranch, honey mustard, etc. containers)
  6. Testing Spoons from an Ice Cream Shop
  7. Silver Craft or Spray Paint
  8. Caulk Plus Silicone
  9. Cotton Balls
  10. Food Coloring
  11. Small Containers for TIPS and test spoons *Mine were recycled Baby Bottle Pops
  12. Concession Candy Printables & Other Mix Ins
  13. Cold Stone Printables
  14. Menu Printable
  15. Menu 2 Printable
  16. Sticker Paper *Optional
  17. Red Cold Stone Cup Printables
  18. White Cold Stone Cup Printables
  19. Ice Cream FlavorsPrintables
  20. Tape
  21. Mod Podge
  22. Your own furnishings to complete the shop!

Tips:

  • I have a favorite spray paint that doesn’t run or streak or flicker.  Rust-Oleum Painters Touch 2X Ultra Cover Paint & Primer Metallic Aluminum.  This stuff is great!  I am not a spray painter.  I get too impatient to finish the craft!  This stuff dries almost instantly and it works on everything!  I wouldn’t recommend a product like this unless I really think it’s the best.  For me so far it has been the best spray paint ever!!
  • Of course you can just substitute any small spoon for the tester spoons.  But where’s the fun in that?  Take a field trip and get your ice cream testing on!
  • Mix Ins-This is where it will be fun to see everyone’s own unique version.  We used concession candy that we made a long time ago.  It was perfect for our mix ins because our mix in display (clear tray from Target One Spot) didn’t have a lid.  If you have tiny square jars you might want to make each mix in differently!  Anything works right?!  When we went to Cold Stone for inspiration they had candy for the mix ins still in wrappers and packaging, so you can’t go wrong no matter how you choose to do yours!
  • I used Sticker Paper for my ice cream labels and some signs this time.  I’ve always wanted to do it but haven’t and then the fabulous reader Gina told me she was using it for a lot of our printables so I had to jump on board.  They are wonderful!  Thanks Gina!

    It’s from an OG set. But you can find Banana bunches from Hobby Lobby and Michaels.

    I use the Costco Sample Spoons for my dolls, and they would be great for this! I have been really getting into the Ice Cream theme scenes and the stuff in them!

      I get it from Blick, a local art supply store. You can also find it at Michaels and Hobby Lobby. The Dollar Tree also has it, but it’s a lesser quality.

      The cash register is from a My Life As snack stand. I painted it silver. The clear candy container is from Target $1 spot.

    Thanks for the recommendation of anything but caulk! I made my own one and added some of my own goodies including some of the stuff from my hot cocoa stand (marshmallows, nuts, cinnamon sticks) and i made chocolate sauce doing the same method as the hot chocolate in the hot cocoa stand. i also added a newspaper stand for the customers from your newspaper video!

    Love this craft!!! I made the og ice cream truck and i have no ice cream! I was wondering if there in an alternative to using caulk?? Thanks!

      You can use puffy paint. I would stuff the containers with cotton balls or pom poms first to fill the space. You can also use smaller containers like condiment containers that we used for the lunchables. If you don’t have puffy paint you can mix craft paint with shaving cream. Hope these alternatives help!

    One other thing I forgot to mention: I accidentally broke the thin strip of foam board that holds the ice cream buckets in place as we were moving it so to strengthen both “strips”, I hot glued a dowel from a s’mores kit, cut to size, underneath. The dowel is about an 1/8″ in diameter. ?

    I love all your creations , we have a entire room for our AG dolls and have 8 dolls and lots of stuff would love to keep making things because I love crafting ,so my question is how do you display or store all your creations? We are running out of space.

      The big stuff is put on a shelf or in a doll room. The small stuff when not in use is put in plastic bin drawer for easy access when needed to be played with. If it is an entire scene that needs to be taken down and switched out, I use the plastic tubs and label them. That way when it’s time to put the scene back up, everything is together. That’s why it’s nice to make more than one thing sometimes because several scenes might use the same items!

    and i have no clue what caulk is. Could i use puffy paint squirted into the little cups?

      I’m sure you could. Caulk gives you more for half the cost though. There is a link above under materials needed showing you what type of caulk silicone I used. You can also find it at any hardware store or Walmart.

    Hi, I loooove this! I can’t seem to get the menu printables to fit a normal page. It cuts the last part of it off every time! Any suggestions??

      Your printer settings must be set to something custom. Under print preview make sure to check “print entire image” NOT “fill entire page”
