Okay, some of you who have been following American Girl Ideas since the beginning might know that last year I already did a tutorial on how to make an American Girl bean bag chair.  It has been one of the most popular posts on the blog and I get private messages on it at least once a week!  That’s crazy!  As much as I don’t mind responding to private messages, and I don’t, I shouldn’t be getting the same questions over and over every week about the same post.  That’s my fault.  I should have done a better job being thorough with the step by step instructions.  After all, I don’t want your doll to miss out on all the fun a bean bag chair has to offer!  So, in this post I will try to do a better job of explaining the process of making a bean bag chair, and I did a video to go along with it that hopefully is easy to follow.  Remember, as I’ve said before I’m not a seamstress so I might do something a little different than all you professionals out there!

Materials Needed:

  1. Scrap Fabric
  2. Filling (grocery bags, scrap fabric bits, rice, beans, batting, whatever you want!)
  3. Needle & Thread or Sewing Machine
  4. Scissors
  5. Tape Measure

Notice in the picture how Grace’s bean bag chair looks smaller than Julie’s bean bag chair.  That’s because it is!  I am going to give you two different measurements, and you can use the pictures for reference.  Honestly, I like both!  It depends on how much room you have in your dollhouse and what look you are going for.  My kids have different size bean bag chairs in their playroom so either one works.  It’s just preference. Also, I used two coordinating fabrics for Grace and only one fabric for Julie.  Again, it just depends on the look you want.  If you are pulling it into a room you can always make some throw pillows for the bed, couch, or playroom floor.

Grace’s Measurements:

(4) Pieces

17″ long from top point to bottom point

4″ wide from center when FOLDED (It’s double when unfolded)

Julie’s Measurements:

(4) Pieces

19″ long from top point to bottom point

6″ wide from center when FOLDED
