How to Make American Girl Pies

How to Make American Girl Pies

As promised, we are starting the crafts from Grace’s Read and Create Baking Set.  If you have the set and have made these pies already, feel free to share your tips and tricks with us in the comments.  The book doesn’t explain the craft entirely, so we inserted some of our own ideas to complete the pies. We hope that those of you who don’t have this set enjoy following along as we craft from the book.

Materials Needed:

  1. Scissors
  2. Felt
  3. Beads
  4. School Glue
  5. Hot Glue
  6. Puffy Paint
  7. Styrofoam *Optional
  8. Aluminum Foil
  9. Lid (size of your choice)

TIPS:

  • We only made three pies, but the flavors are endless and you can still use the techniques that we show in the video
  • I love the styrofoam look, but it can easy be substituted with puffy paint or tissue paper
  • I didn’t weave my entire pie crust, whoops! You can though!

My daughter & I had the best time making these! We could not find appropriate beads so we made our own fruit using clay. The plan was to make separate blueberry and cherry pies but we ended up mixing the fruits because it looked good. Instead of paint or a lattice top, we made the mathematical symbol Pi to put on top to create a Pi pie. Terrible math pun but it looked cute!

EquineDollLover I think you could use a different type of glue but I would definitely use hot glue when I make mine. You could try tacky glue, school glue, E6000 glue, ect. Those are the only types of glues that I can think of (besides a glue stick) But Rudy might have some better ideas

Hey do you think that leaving out the hot glue would work? i like to not use hot glue as much as i can.
