Some friends and I have been on a gaming kick lately—trying out all sorts of board and card games. While looking for something a bit more offbeat, I stumbled on the idea of traditional Indian card games. Didn't know there was so much variety! But it's tough to find structured info on where these games come from, how they’re played, or even what they're called. Wondering if anyone here has explored this space or knows a solid starting point to learn the history and gameplay?

Happened to do a short documentary last year about traditional games across Asia, and India had some of the richest content. Especially fascinating was how card games were influenced by Mughal royalty. There's a fantastic piece that goes into the evolution and cultural depth of these games—check it out here: https://www.nagpurtoday.in/how-mughal-courts-shaped-indian-card-games/03111454 . It breaks down how games like Ganjifa evolved from courtly traditions and how their designs reflect the art and values of the time. Super eye-opening if you're looking to go beyond just gameplay mechanics.

Appreciate discussions like this. It's cool to see that card games can offer more than entertainment—they also hold pieces of history. Definitely checking out that article later. Threads like this are a great change of pace from the usual stuff.
